The starting journey will take two overnight stays in different areas since going to the Banyak Island requires a morning boat, and the distance from Medan is quite far.
Banyak Island offers serenity like no other. You stay in a very simple hotel that often goes without electricity during the day because regular electricity is not available on that island, and a power generator must be used. However, this will provide you with ample time to rest, disconnect from the outside world, and enjoy your time the way Robinson Crusoe did before.

Itinerary
It is strongly advisable to arrive in Medan maximum by 13:00, this is because the drive to Berastagi takes more than three hours on a long and winding road.
Day 1: Straight to Berastagi

Your journey begins in Medan, the bustling capital of North Sumatra, known for its rich multicultural heritage. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by your driver and start the drive to the hill town of Berastagi. Arriving in Berastagi, you can ask your driver to take you on a visit to the local market.
Day 2: Climb the Sibayak Volcano then off to Singkil

At the appropriate time, you will be picked up by the driver to take you to the starting point of Mount Sibayak. he hike is relatively short but steep, typically taking about 3-4 hours to reach the summit. Along the way, climbers are treated to stunning views of the surrounding valleys and distant mountains.
At the peak, you’ll be greeted by a breathtaking landscape of sulfur vents, bubbling fumaroles, and a panoramic view of the nearby Lake Toba. The summit provides a perfect spot to rest and take in the majestic scenery, with the sound of steam escaping from the craters adding to the unique experience.
Afterwards, the journey will continue where you will arrive in the small village of Singkil, in the Aceh region. Here, you will stay in a basic ‘camp’ for the night, to prepare for your departure to the island in the morning.
Do note, there’s only one place to stay in the Singkil harbour area, which is downright basic, and only used as an overnight transit place to reach Banyak Island the next day. Therefore, no hotel amenities or regular hotel facilities provided here.
Day 3: Hello, Island Life

After breakfast, embark on a short boat ride to the Banyak Island. Arriving on the island, you can walk to your hotel for check-in, and enjoy the rest of the day, free at leisure.
Day 4 to Day 7: Free Days

On these days, you will get to enjoy free time to relax or to explore the island. You can rent a kayak, or get on a snorkeling trip around the island. In short, this is the times where you get to enjoy being yourself and discharged from the reality. Spend time interacting with the friendly local communities to learn about their traditional way of life, their customs, and their fishing practices. Visiting local villages can offer a unique glimpse into the simple yet fulfilling lifestyle on the island.
Day 8: Back to Mainland

By the local boat, you return to mainland North Sumatra, and then, a long drive back to Medan will follow. This drive will take approx. 8 to 9hrs, giving you time to rest in the car during the journey. You will arrive in the hotel near the airport, so that you don’t need to rush for your flight the next day.
Day 9: Departure
Your adventure in North Sumatra concludes today. After breakfast, depending on your flight schedule, you can return to your room. Alternatively, you can walk to the departure gate of your flight.
