Michael and his family of four recently took this trip, where they bonded overnights in the Deluxe houseboats, accompanied by a private local guide on deck to further ensure the family has the best experience.
When asked about his trip, Michael told us that anyone should get the upgraded Deluxe Houseboat and then travel off-season to fully enjoy the trip by the river.
Experience the magic of Kalimantan’s wilderness, where each moment offers something extraordinary. Whether it’s the serene beauty of the rivers, the captivating wildlife, or the special encounters with the iconic orangutans, this trip is designed to create lasting memories that will stay with you long after you leave. Don’t miss the chance to be a part of this unforgettable adventure.

Itinerary
To ensure your safety and comfort, we strongly recommend staying overnight in Pangkalanbun or taking a flight that arrives before 10:00 to Pangkalanbun.
Day 1: Your adventure starts here

You will be picked up from the airport or your hotel in Pangkalanbun to start this great adventure. Our representative will then take you on a drive to Kumai Harbour, where you get on your comfortable houseboat for this trip. Once in Kumai, you’ll board a houseboat and enjoy a delicious lunch onboard. Afterward, set sail along the Kumai River, and in about 15 minutes, you’ll reach the Seikonyer River, the lifeblood of Tanjung Puting National Park. As you cruise the river, immerse yourself in the rich vegetation—Nipa palms, Pandanus, and lush trees. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife like exotic birds, playful macaques, Proboscis monkeys, and, of course, the majestic orangutans. If your flight arrives early enough (before 11:00 AM), you may have the chance to witness the orangutan feeding at Tanjung Harapan at 3:00 PM, where the rangers will offer a rare opportunity to see these incredible creatures up close. At 4:00 PM, venture further to observe the elusive Proboscis monkeys along the riverbanks—these unique primates are native only to Borneo. As the sun sets, return to your houseboat for a cozy dinner and restful night onboard.
Day 2: Visiting the Famous Camp Leakey

After a hearty breakfast, prepare for an exciting day ahead. Cruise along the river in the morning, when wildlife is most active. Continue your journey upstream to the renowned Camp Leakey, where you’ll explore the history and legacy of Dr. Birute Galdikas, the pioneering orangutan researcher. While the museum is temporarily closed, the natural surroundings offer plenty of opportunities to connect with the wildlife.
Following lunch onboard, you’ll trek deeper into the forest for an unforgettable experience: watching the orangutans being fed, a truly humbling sight. Afterward, you’ll return to the boat and head to Pondok Ambung. If time allows, embark on a 2-hour evening trek to discover the nocturnal creatures of Borneo, such as tarsiers and tarantulas. Return to your houseboat for a relaxing dinner and overnight stay.
Note: The Birute Galdikas Museum at Camp Leakey is currently closed for maintenance. We apologize for the inconvenience and will notify you once the museum reopens.
Day 3: Visit the Tanjung Harapan Village and Camp

Wake up to the sounds of the jungle and enjoy a leisurely breakfast before heading downriver to Pondok Tanggui, the second orangutan rehabilitation center. Arrive in time for the 9:00 AM orangutan feeding session and capture some magical moments as these incredible creatures are nourished in the wild. At 10:00 AM, return to the boat and make your way to Tanjung Harapan village, where you’ll experience the Malayan settlement activities.
After a lunch break on board, you’ll head to Tanjung Harapan Camp for the final orangutan feeding session at 3:00 PM. As the sun sets, your boat will take you to the Nipa Palm area, where thousands of fireflies light up the night sky. Return to the boat for a delicious dinner and another peaceful overnight stay aboard.
Day 4: Trekking and Explore with the Motorboat Canoe

Your adventure continues after breakfast with an exhilarating trek through the forest. Starting from Tanjung Harapan, you’ll embark on a 3-hour hike to Sungai Buluh, a journey that brings you deeper into the lush wilderness of Borneo. Upon reaching Sungai Buluh, enjoy a serene exploration by motorboat canoe, then return to your houseboat.
Relax as you cruise back, keeping an eye out for groups of Proboscis monkeys along the riverbanks. After lunch on board, enjoy your free time as you spot wildlife and take in the serene beauty of your surroundings. As night falls, a visit to the Nipa Palm area awaits, where the glow of a thousand fireflies will leave you in awe.
Day 5: Departure

After a peaceful breakfast, your journey comes to an end as you cruise back to Kumai Port. From there, we’ll transfer you to Pangkalan Bun Airport for your next destination, carrying with you memories of a lifetime.
