Step into the heart of the legendary Spice Islands. Start in the vibrant port of Ambon before crossing the deep Banda Sea to the tiny, historic shores of Banda Neira. Here, giant nutmeg trees shade centuries-old Dutch forts, all under the shadow of a perfect volcanic cone.
Wander through cobblestone streets where history feels alive, then sail out to untouched coral gardens for a look at the ocean’s best-kept secrets. It is a journey into a forgotten corner of the world where life slows to the rhythm of the tides and the scent of cinnamon hangs in the air.

Itinerary
There are several flights that start and ends in Ambon, the gateway for this trip. You can fly from Jakarta, Surabaya, or Denpasar (Bali). Some flights might have several connections.
Please note: In this remote region, flight schedules are subject to change based on weather and airline updates. If you book your domestic flights with us, we will keep you informed of any changes and adjust the daily plan on the ground to ensure the smoothest transitions possible.
Day 1: Arrival in Ambon

Your journey starts in the port city of Ambon. Upon landing in the early afternoon, a driver will meet you for the short trip to a nearby hotel. Since you’ve likely traveled a long way to reach this remote corner of Indonesia, the rest of the day is dedicated to winding down. Relax at the hotel, enjoy your first taste of Maluku hospitality with lunch and dinner on-site, and prepare for the boat ride into the heart of the Banda Sea the following morning.
Day 2: Off to the Living History

An early start brings you back to the harbour for a scenic baot ride that offers unobstructed view of the turquoise waters as you approach Banda Neira. After checking in and having lunch, you will spend the afternoon walking through the town’s storied past. You’ll visit local museums and the exile home of Bung Hatta, seeing firsthand where history was made. Stand on the ramparts of Fort Nassau and Fort Belgica for panoramic views over the harbor before browsing the traditional market. The evening is yours to soak in the quiet, nostalgic atmosphere of this historic port.
Day 3: The Shores and Secrets of Ay Island

Today is dedicated to the outer islands and their remarkable history. You will travel to Ay Island to see its historic fortifications and spend time in the water at some of the region’s most beautiful coral reefs. Afterward, you will continue to Run Island, the tiny piece of land that the English famously traded to the Dutch for Manhattan in the 17th century. It is a quiet, remote place with white sand beaches and a slow pace of life. Spend the afternoon snorkeling in the clear shallows or walking the village paths before returning to Banda Neira as the sun begins to set.
Day 4: The Nutmeg Groves of Lonthoir

After breakfast, a short boat ride across the water brings you to Pulau Besar, or Lonthoir Island. This is the heart of the world’s original nutmeg production. You will walk through ancient groves where towering Kanari trees provide shade for the nutmeg below, much as they have for centuries. From the heights of the island, near the ruins of Fort Hollandia, you’ll find the most famous panoramic view of the Banda volcano sitting perfectly across the water. After lunch on the island and a visit to the local villages, you’ll head back to the main town for a relaxed evening.
Day 5: Adventure on Option

For your final full day in the archipelago, you can tailor the pace to your liking. Those seeking a challenge can rise early for a trek to the summit of Gunung Api, the “Fire Mountain.” The climb is steep but rewards you with a breathtaking view of the entire ring of islands. If you prefer a day of world-class marine life, you might choose to visit Hatta Island, famous for its dramatic underwater drop-offs and crystal-clear visibility. Alternatively, you can spend a slow day in town, revisiting your favorite spots or relaxing by the water, followed by a final farewell dinner featuring the island’s signature spices.
Day 6: Return to Ambon

Enjoy a final breakfast at your hotel, perhaps catching one last look at the volcano reflecting in the calm morning water. At the scheduled time, you will be transferred to the harbour for your boat back to Ambon. As you leave Banda Neira, you’ll see the volcanic peaks and turquoise reefs one last time before you arrive in Ambon.
Day 8: Departure

At the scheduled time, your driver will meet you for a comfortable transfer to the airport in preparation for your flight. As our journey together comes to a close, we wish you a safe and smooth trip to your next destination. We hope the memories of your time here stay with you long after you return home.
