Upon docking at Gilimanuk, we’ll drive along the scenic northern coast toward Lovina. This route offers a peaceful glimpse of authentic Bali, winding through traditional villages tucked between the mountains and the sea. For the perfect welcome, we recommend trying some local Sate Lilit (minced meat satay) along the way, a delicious introduction to the island’s unique flavors.
Day 16: Rest Up in Lovina

In Lovina, the clock slows to a more deliberate pace. Early risers are rewarded at dawn with the sight of wild dolphin pods breaching the crystalline, calm waters of the Bali Sea. For those seeking a slower start, the village’s tranquil energy is perfect for a long breakfast and a morning of undisturbed rest.
A world away from the frenetic pulse of southern Bali, this traditional fishing village invites you to wander its quiet streets, browse local boutiques, or simply retreat to a poolside lounge with a book.
IndoStep Insider Tip: To experience the dolphins at their most majestic, plan your visit outside of the peak holiday season. During the quieter months, the lack of boat traffic offers a far more intimate and serene encounter with these incredible marine mammals.

Leave the black sands of Lovina behind as you ascend into the lush highlands of Ubud. Often called the island’s “medicine” (ubad), Ubud is the cultural and spiritual heart of Bali, where ancient traditions, artisan craft, and emerald rice fields meet. Once settled into your hotel, the afternoon is yours to relax or begin exploring the town’s vibrant streets at your own pace.
IndoStep Insider Tip: Your Journey, Your Way The drive to Ubud is one of Bali’s most scenic routes. Your private driver can customize the trip with stops at the iconic “floating” Ulun Danu Temple, the mist-covered Gitgit Waterfalls, or a mountain coffee plantation. For the epicurean, Ubud is a culinary revelation, offering everything from authentic Balinese flavors to world-class farm-to-table dining. Whether you are wandering through emerald landscapes or finding stillness in a local shrine, here, every moment feels connected to the divine.
IndoStep Pro Tip:
For a truly peaceful morning walk, head to the Campuhan Ridge Walk at sunrise. It’s the perfect way to see the lush river valleys before the tropical heat sets in.
Day 19: Ubud’s Path of the Soul: Offerings, Heritage & Purification

Today offers a profound immersion into the spiritual heartbeat of Bali, taking you beyond the surface of the island’s famous temples and into the depth of its living traditions.
Your journey begins with a hands-on introduction to Balinese devotion. You will learn the art of crafting a Canang Sari, the intricate palm-leaf offerings seen across the island. More than just a craft, this is a meditative practice used to seek permission and blessings from the gods. With your handmade offering in hand, you’ll be prepared to enter the sacred spaces of the day with intention and respect.
Next, we travel back to the 11th century at Gunung Kawi. Tucked away in a lush river valley, these monumental royal tombs are carved directly into the sheer cliff faces. As your guide leads you along hidden paths through emerald rice terraces, you’ll discover the history of the ancient Udayana Kingdom and the spiritual significance of this breathtaking funerary complex.
The journey continues to Tirta Empul, one of Bali’s most important water temples, where a bubbling holy spring feeds a series of stone pools. Your guide will walk you through the temple’s history and the significance of its 14 holy water spouts.
We conclude the day back at the Foundation, where a special lunch awaits you at the Yayasan Café. This inspiring social project is run by local youth with special needs, providing them with vocational training and independence. It is the perfect place to reflect on your day’s journey while enjoying a delicious meal that gives back to the local community.
A Moment for Renewal: For those who feel called to do so, there is an opportunity to participate in a traditional purification ceremony (Melukat). If you are interested, please let us know so that we can arrange this experience.
Day 20: Exploring Balinese’s Way of Life

Step away from the tourist trails and discover the true rhythm of Bali. This immersive journey is designed to connect you with the land, the locals, and the ancient traditions that define island life.
Your adventure begins within the walls of a traditional family compound. Here, your local host will introduce you to the daily rituals of a Balinese household before leading you on a scenic trek through the village outskirts. As you walk, you’ll navigate a landscape of emerald rice terraces and tropical greenery, witnessing the Subak irrigation system, a UNESCO-recognized marvel of community water management, in action.
The trail follows a pristine river fed by a chain of eleven natural springs. You will visit several of these sacred water sources, meeting local farmers along the way who still work the land in harmony with nature. To cool down, take a refreshing dip in the final mountain-fed spring—a hidden sanctuary of crystal-clear water tucked deep within the jungle.
The heart of the day is a hands-on culinary celebration. Using fresh ingredients gathered from the surrounding forest and river, including wild herbs, local vegetables, and fresh river catch! You will learn the art of Jungle Cooking. Under the guidance of your hosts, you’ll prepare a traditional feast over an authentic wood-fired stove, learning the secrets of Balinese spices and techniques.
The experience culminates in a soulful, homemade lunch served right beside the flowing river. To the soundtrack of rustling leaves and rushing water, you’ll savor the flavors you helped create.
IndoStep Insider Tip: This experience is as much about the people as it is about the food. Don’t be afraid to ask your hosts about their family traditions or the medicinal uses of the plants you find in the jungle—their knowledge is the best guidebook you could ask for!
